WBTC: Etsy shop back open for business!

After quite the sabbatical (moving across a couple states, buying a new house, starting a new job, etc.), I've finally got some new antlers up on my Etsy shop: White Buffalo Trading Co!

Here are a few shots of the new antlers!  And as always, I love doing custom orders!

Hello! + Homemade Ramen Recipe

Hi everyone!

So, it has been a while... I've been meaning to get back in the habit of blogging, but life seemed to keep getting in the way.  My husband and I dealt with a lot of changes all at once - moving, starting a new job, selling an old house, buying a new house, starting law school (him, not me), etc.  We've been getting used to our new routines and a new city.  Here are some of the highlights:

Chopped 10 inches off my hair!

Best friend Pam came for an Autumn visit!

We discovered Dram Apothecary - a new mountain fave!
More on this awesome place in an upcoming post...
I attended my first ever NBA game!

Earlier this week, I posted this photo of some homemade ramen I threw together for dinner - people seemed intrigued.  So, I thought the recipe may be a good start for getting back into this blogging thing.... Bon Appetit!

Ingredients:
Sesame Oil
4 garlic cloves, pressed
2-3 tsps of freshly grated ginger
4-5 cups of broth (chicken/beef/vegetable/etc.) - homemade is best, store-bought boxed broth is next, boullion cubes in a pinch (those go from lowest to highest amounts of sodium)
4 cups of water
1-2 tsps of cayenne pepper
Pinch of red pepper flakes
1 Package of sliced shiitake mushrooms (can used dried)
2 packages of ramen noodles (throw away the flavor packets!)
Shredded carrots (optional)
Bacon, coarsely chopped
Green onions, chopped
Cilantro, coarsely chopped
Poached egg
Sriracha (optional)

Directions:
Put a few tsps of sesame oil in a pot on light/medium heat. Add garlic and ginger and cook for a couple minutes until aromatic - be sure not to burn!

Next, add broth, water, cayenne, and pepper flakes

If using dried mushrooms, go ahead and add to the broth with the spices. If using fresh mushrooms, let the broth simmer about 10 minutes, then add. While the broth is simmering, you can fry up your bacon and place on paper towel to soak up some of the grease.  I used about 5 or 6 strips of thick cut bacon, but you can do less or more depending on how much meat you want.

Let the broth simmer for about 20-25 minutes total, then add carrots and noodles.

While the noodles are cooking, poach your egg(s). I'll add my poaching tips below just in case :). You could always use a fried egg, if that's easier.

Once the noodles are tender, you are ready to combine!  Add broth/noodle mixture to a deep bowl, top with bacon, green onions, cilantro, and poached egg! Top with some Sriracha, if you want a little additional kick.

Egg Poaching Tips:
- Use only lightly bowling water - if the boiling gets too violent it will rip the egg apart
- Add a little white vinegar to the water before you start boiling, this will help keep the egg together
- Before dropping the egg into the lightly boiling water, create a little whirlpool with a spoon and drop the egg in the center (this will help the egg white stay wrapped around the yolk)
- Once the egg starts cooking, it may get stuck at the bottom of the pan - use a spatula to peel the egg off of the pan, so that it's floating in the water

Marc Jacobs Nail Polish

I bought two Marc Jacobs nail colors last week....

Fluorescent Beige

Sally

The Fluorescent Beige is such an interesting color - it's like a pale pink, but a tad darker due to the beige/nude undertones.  And the Sally is also a very cool teal color, but just a heads up that it looks mostly black when applied.

Either way, both colors have lasted wonderfully.  I highly recommend!

Music Monday | Space Oddity from Space!

This is an amazing cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" as filmed from the International Space Station by commander Chris Hadfield.  This was Hadfield's final video from the Space Station, as he heads home tomorrow.

And BONUS, this was the first music video ever filmed in outerspace! Very cool!

Music Mondays | Steve Martin + Edie Brickell

This weekend, I went to a lovely going away shindig for my friend Amanda who is making the big jump from KC to Portland.  I will miss her tons, but can't wait to visit!!

During the festivities, we had a fun little discussion about new music.  Y'all, I had NO idea Steve Martin just put out an album in collaboration with Edie Brickell!  You know... Edie Brickell of "What I Am" fame?? Here's a nice clip of her on Letterman in 1988 to refresh your memory:

Well, this new album entitled Love Has Come For You has Steve Martin showing off his banjo skills with Edie killing it on the vocals.  It's such a great little bluegrass treat from two great talents. And now, in an effort to bring this story full circle, here's a recent Letterman performance of "When You Get To Asheville" of the new album:

Marfa, TX | Camp Bosworth

So, you may have heard of Marfa, TX because of this little gem...

http://ballroommarfa.org/tep-user/i/Prada_4_small.jpg

Yep, it's the little town with the Prada store art installation (the store is actually never open). In addition to this quirky foray into Land Art, the town of Marfa, TX has become quite the artist enclave. You can watch a recent 60 Minutes piece on the town here.

One of the art galleries featured in the 60 Minutes vignette was the artwork of Camp Bosworth - I was told to watch out for them, since he used to be roommates with my cousin back in his Dallas days. Well, excuse my language - but his shit is dyn-o-mite!  Check out these gun carvings that double as bars...

I also found his online shop of great little art pieces here. There are a few I might be able to afford!  Here are some of my faves:

Music Mondays | Pokey Lafarge & The South City Three

Saturday night, the hubby and I had the great pleasure of catching Pokey Lafarge & The South City Three live here in Kansas City!  Such an amazing bluegrass band!  The lead singer has such a unique voice - it reminds me of a different time.

Have a listen and tell me you don't suddenly want to go back to the 1920s to drink a little moonshine!

Music Mondays | New JT...Finally.

It's about freaking time!  I've been waiting for a new album from Justin Timberlake for QUITE a while. Remember when Sexy Back used to be your jaaaaaaaaaam?  Yeah, me too.  Barely.  But hot damn, those were good days.

Thank the good Lord he just released a new single featuring Jay-Z called Suit & Tie.  The intro is a little weird, so give it thirty seconds.  JT definitely hits his groove.  Now, where's the full album? I've been patient enough.
