Diament Designs

So, back to my normal ramblings with random wedding recaps thrown in :).

I wanted to tell y'all about Diament Designs jewelry today.  It's super affordable and unique!  Here are a few of my current favorites:

Monday Matchsticks!

I adore these little matchstick drop earrings from St. Kilda!

They are made out of brass and enamel, and they come with 8 different color "match" tips!  So cute and unique for everyday wear.  Happy Monday, everyone!

Norwegian Wood

Yesterday, I bought a great new necklace by Norwegian Wood to wear on my trip to New Orleans next weekend! It's made of leather and coconut pieces. I think it looks very voodoo-esque, don't you?

Make a statement.

Indian Summer...

Well, I wish we were having an Indian Summer... we are currently awaiting a good dose of snow here in the Midwest.  What I really want to talk about is inserting a little Indian into your Spring wardrobe.  Right now, I'm lusting after a few items that fit into this upcoming "Navajo" trend everyone's talking about.

Here's the dress that started it all.  An awesomely HOT dress from Nasty Girl.  It's currently sold out, but you better believe I'll be keeping my eye out for it to be restocked!

This poncho from Urban Outfitters provides just the right amount of warmth for Spring temperatures.  Plus, I'm loving items in white/ivory hues.  I dunno, maybe it's the bride in me ;).

I think these flats from Cynthia Vincent would be amazing for Spring and Summer - can't you just picture them paired with skinny jeans and simple gray cardi?  Keeping it classy and trendy, all at the same time!

And jewelry... you know I can't forget jewelry.  I think it's my favorite category!  So many House of Harlow items fit into this Navajo trend.  I've been admiring this ring for a while now...

Saying yes to the dress...

This past July, my mom and my future mother-in-love came up to NYC to go wedding dress shopping with me before the big move.  The first day was wonderful!  The second day was frustrating... but I eventually found the perfect dress and I can't wait to wear it next summer.  And no, you will not get to see it in this post - so keep dreaming ;).  BUT I will show you some of the other beautiful gowns I found on my shopping journey.

I knew I wanted something with texture and a splash of uniqueness that I hadn't seen on anyone else's wedding dress - and I've been to a lot of weddings.  Nothing too sparkly. Nothing too poofy.  I was a Texas debutante.  So, needless to say, been there. Done that.  I also didn't want anything too heavy since we were having an outdoor wedding.  I was actually leaning towards a short dress, so that I could keep costs down and also get some rad shoes.  However, I was definitely one of those brides who ended up with a dress that was NOT expected.  But it's beautiful and sophisticated, and I couldn't be happier.

So, here's how it all went down...

We started at Amsale.  One of my best friends from college had an Amsale dress that was beautiful.  They also carry a whole line of "Little White Dresses" that I wanted to check out.  A lot of the dresses (like the ones below) at the showroom were gorgeous - I guess their prices have gone up with their popularity. So, it seemed like a lack of unique design for the price.

Next, we headed down the street to Pronovias, a spanish brand known for its beautiful lace and european style gowns.  I found so many dresses that I loved here.  And the prices seemed so much more reasonable for what you were getting!  Here are a few that I looked at...

Our final stop on Day 1 was a new bridal boutique in the West Village called Lovely Bride.  Lovely carries a lot of smaller designers and most of their dresses have a similar aesthetic to what I was looking for.   I highly recommend this "lovely" little place.

Day 2 was the more frustrating day.  We started out the day at Kleinfeld's - you know, the "Say Yes to the Dress" people.  It's a lovely salon... a lovely HUGE salon.  That was one of the difficulties here - you really had to rely on your consultant to understand your criteria and pull the right dresses.  The problem? My consultant did not understand what I was looking for.  Also, I don't think Kleinfeld's really specializes in the style of dress I was looking for.  They have so many more options if you are looking for a big glitzy ball gown. Sorry, Pnina Tornai, I'm just not that into you.

The final stop on my wedding dress journey was the brand new J. Crew bridal salon on Madison Avenue.  It is a great boutique!  They don't quite have their process down yet.  And as much as I love the simplicity of the J. Crew dresses, I was looking for something with just a little more panache.  But here are a couple that I tried on....

I am going to remember their jewelry though!  So unique - it's over-the-top, but in a good way!  Check it out...

The next couple days, I slept on everything I saw and eventually came to a decision.  It was a tough decision because going into my dress search, I was thinking I would end up in a more casual dress.  However, I ended up purchasing a beautiful dress from Pronovias that is more on the fancy side.  It will still fit in our rustic mountain theme with its delicate, vintage details. And I'm so excited to marry the love of my life in this dress!

Digby & Iona - To die for!

Digby & Iona is one of my favorite jewelry design companies! They have such statement peices - anything from a compass to a caged sparrow to a 2x4. I thought of D&I because I was pondering what I might wear in our engagement photos in a few weeks...  I'm hoping to incorporate this mustache necklace I bought last summer into one of my oh-so-stylish ensembles!

I am also super excited to have Brooke Fitts over at Brookelyn Photography shooting our engagement photos.  I just love her work! And I know we are going to have a great time wandering around Brooklyn during the shoot! So, be prepared for lots of photos in a couple weeks...

Brookadelphia.

Brookadelphia is one of the Etsy stores I ALWAYS visit, ever since I saw my friend Jen wearing this Texas necklace (I finally bought myself one last week!).  Texans gotta represent up here in the Northeast... 

I absolutely love Amber's laser cut acrylic accessories.  She also makes some Brooklyn- inspired items.  Once you go Brooklyn, you never go back!  Here are a few more of my faves for your viewing pleasure...

Pseudo-impulse purchase...

I've been wanting this ring for FOREVER!  I first knew about the design because I met Jules Kim (of Bijules) at a networking event here in NYC.  Ever since, I've been pining for such an accessory.  So, when I saw that there was a Bijules sale on Gilt, I went for it!  I just know this ring is going to become a quick favorite!

Soooo excited about my new vintage divers helmet necklace!  I hope it arrives soon.... Anybody who knows me also knows that I love a statement necklace.  I can't wait to add this to my arsenal!  Visit Maddy's etsy store for more treasures.

Anna Beck Designs.

For the last couple years I have been a fan of Anna Beck's jewelry designs.  She has a very distinct aesthetic that effortlessly combines modern, exotic, and classic styles.

Two Christmases ago, my boyfriend got me the above ring.  Then, he told me the story of how he got the ring.  He initially went to the store in Manhattan where I had pointed out the ring - they didn't have my size.  Then, he checked online - my size was, once again, sold out.  So, he called the design studio out in LA and ended up talking to Miss Anna Beck, herself!  She was also sold out of my size and had stopped making that particular design, but she offered to make one more especially for me!

When he told me that story, I couldn't believe it.  It made me realize that A) my boyfriend is a keeper and B) that Anna is not only a great designer, but a sweetheart who went out of her way to please a client.  All of this combined has made me an Anna Beck customer for life!
